2023 Festival

The second annual Arts in Action Festival will feature panels, workshops and performances from organizations embedded in arts advocacy across New York City.

Participating organizations included: All Literary Citizens, LLC, Alliance for Quality Education, Archive-Based Creative Arts, Art Resistance through Education, Arts Justice Safety Coalition, Artistic Noise, Dark-Skin Support Group, Empowerment Avenue Films, Envision Freedom Fund, Fair Chance for Housing Campaign, Freedom Agenda, JustMedia, Midtown Community Court, Music on the Inside, Inc, National Council for Incarcerated and Formerly Incarcerated Women and Girls, PEN America, Pro Bono ASL, Right/Write to Heal, Release Aging People in Prison Campaign, Sound Off: Music for Bail, The Black Iris Project, Urban Word, Waterwell, Women's Transcending Theater Ensemble, Zealous, and Women's Community Justice Association.

DAY #2: FINAL PERFORMANCE

Monday, September 10th at 7:00pm at New World Stages
340 W 50th St, New York, NY 10019

Performers include:

New York City’s Youth Poet Laureate Stephanie Pacheco, Women’s Theater Ensemble, Music on the Inside and Sound Off: Music for Bail, Black Iris Project, an original commission by Waterwell’s Youth Drama Program and the world premiere of work from Tony winner Kara Young (Cost of Living, upcoming Purlie Victorious), Tiffany Mann (Waitress, Be More Chill), Shakina Nayfack (NBC’s “Connecting”, Hulu’s “Difficult People”), Britton Smith (Britton and the Sting, Be More Chill) and previous BAC Fellows Camille Thomas, UGBA and Andrea Ambam.

The evening will be hosted by Tony Award winner Tonya Pinkins and advocate Yolanda Johnson-Peterkin and will kick-off with a performance by the G Stars, the step team from Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women.

The evening is co-directed by BAC’s Leia Squillace and Musical Theater Factory’s Brisa Areli Muñoz.
